Offered by the Prudenci Bertrana Foundation and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) the Lletra Prize has established two categories:
a) The best digital initiative aiming to promote the pleasures of reading in Catalan and publicising Catalan authors and their work online;
b) The best educational experience of teaching-learning in Catalan literature and reading in Catalan.
Entries may be presented by individuals or may be the result of joint endeavours by professionals from the domains of culture, education and the technologies, from any country and in any language. The projects must have been carried out in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
In the case of a digital initiative, special attention will be given to sustainable and innovative application of ITC systems to promote reading in Catalan and teaching-learning of Catalan works and writers, the originality of the idea, creativity in its conception and design, previous experience of the project’s promoters in applying ITC systems in culture and education, and its impact in terms of the aims proposed.
In the case of educational experience—aiming at secondary school students aged from 12 to 16, Medium-Level Training Cycles, European Baccalaureate, and Upper-Level Training Cycles—special attention will be given to the impact on the students in terms of the aims proposed, the adequacy of the methodological approach, creativity and innovation in the project’s conception, and the possibilities for replicating the model in other educational centres.
Presentation of candidatures will be done by means of the form on the LletrA website. The deadline for presenting projects is 15 July 2019.
The organising entity reserves the right to change the composition of the jury in case of illness, absence or any other reason preventing the participation of any of its members. Any change of this nature can only be made until thirty days before the prize-winners are announced.
Presenting for either of the Prize’s two categories requires total acceptance of these Rules and the rights and obligations deriving from them.
Awarding of the Prize
The jury’s decision will be announced on 17 September during the festivities of the Girona Literary Prizes.
The jury consists of Josep Anton Fernàndez (Catalan Philoilogy, UOC), Josep M. Fonalleras Prudenci Bertrana Foundation – University of Girona), Gemma Lluch (Catalan Philology, University of Valencia), Francina Martí (Rosa Sensat Association), Teresa Guasch (Psychology and Education Sciences, UOC), M. Antònia Huertas (Computers, Multimedia and Telecommunications, UOC), and Cristina Aliagas (Autonomous University of Barcelona).

The winning project in each category will be awarded a sum of €2,000 (two thousand euros). In addition, in the year following the award of the Prize, the UOC will work with the prize-winners in each category in order to develop and publicise the winning projects.

2017: THE POETIC UNIVERSE OF MARTÍ i POL, because of its excellent technical performance, and as an innovative and creative endeavour favouring the promotion of poetry in Catalan. Addressed to children of four and over, it not only reveals and makes the poet’s creative world more widely known but it also involves very young readers as creators. The app is a visually appealing tool which has succeeded in constructing a virtual space for reading literature and creation. Moreover, it is a dynamic device which is constantly being improved by suggestions from readers and researchers.

2016: A WORLD OF POETRY, placing poetry at the centre of a digital project for children and their increasingly common reading practices with mobile devices which, we believe, have not yet had sufficient attention from publishers.

2015: CATORZE.CAT (Fourteen.Cat), laying the foundations for a Catalan digital space where literature, theatre, cinema, art and music flow together, and where well-known participants with established careers alternate with young, hitherto unpublished voices who find in Catorze a chance to make themselves known in a high-quality setting.
2014: READING IN CATALAN, in which a group of independent publishers have come together to “create projects which help to make their respective books better known in the spirit of cooperatively joining forces in order to attain visibility and contribute towards strengthening the sector”.

2013, Joint winners: 1) PERE CALDERS COLLECTION, of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, because of the meaning and importance in its work of making available to researchers and readers an exhaustive documentary source on Pere Calders, which aids understanding of his work while also helping to keep it alive and acting as a first-class tool for cataloguing it and making it known; and 2) NISE, of the University of Girona, for its role in giving historical and literary relevance to a much-maligned era of Catalan literature, namely that including the Renaissance, Baroque and Enlightenment periods.

2012: NÚVOL.com (CLOUD.com), which represents an intellectual and graphic effort to offer a dynamic, participative showcase of culture with variety and rigour and, in particular, because of its project of online publishing of previously unpublished literary works in Catalan, namely the e-singles.
2011, Joint winners: MÀRIUS TORRES CHAIR OF THE UNVERSITY OF LLEIDA, which, since 2008, has been digitalising a valuable documentary collection for the study and publicising of contemporary Catalan literature; and 2) the WIKIPEDIA PAGES OF CATALAN AUTHORS AND WORKS, a pioneer in developing the Internet’s truly participative dynamics.
2010, Joint winners: CATALAN LITERARY MAP 2.0 and BEST SIDES: A LITERARY GEOGRAPHY OF THE CATALAN-LANGUAGE COUNTRIES because, both published in 2010, they are two very similar examples of good practice in applying georeferencing technologies to publicising the Catalan cultural and literary heritage.
2009: A HANDFUL OF STORIES, for promoting reading among future, digital-native readers.
2008: THE GREY NOTEBOOK BLOG, for its communicative effectiveness, which enriches a traditional literary genre with new uses of the digital diary, favouring promotion of reading and adding numerous complements.
2007: BLOGS IN LETTERS, for its useful, effective application of technology and diffusion of all kinds of information about literature produced by the community of bloggers and the media.
2006 Joint winners: 1) francescseres.net, as an example of a writer’s page which is able to convey to readers the inner world of a creator by means of the resources offered by the Internet and especially the image; and 2) BATTLES IN LITERATURE which, with educational aims and using an optimal combination of design, usability and contents, brings together and makes known authors and texts related with the Spanish Civil War (1936 – 1939).
2005: EL LLIBRETER (The Bookshop Owner), a blog that is outstanding for the quality of its comments on books and literature.
2004: STORIES IN CATALAN. A space for publishing and reading stories in Catalan.
2003: NARCÍS OLLER, a website on the author and his work with a view to educational uses.
